Hello Dear Reader,
I'm loving this slow cooker experiment! I discovered that potatoes can be baked in it too. I wrapped each spud in foil and went to work. The result was a hot potato waiting for me when I got home.
When I got in, I removed the foil, returned the spuds to the crockpot and changed the setting to hgh heat for another 15 minutes. This dried out the skins and gave them that lovely baked flavour.
A simple supper and the simplest way to save a whole heap of money.
I did some slow cooker, money saving research. A regular electric oven uses 2.2kwh to cook these spuds if the oven was on for an hour, or 0,7kwh to leave this on all day and they are hot for me when I got home. On my tariff, these spuds cost just a little over 10p to cook them today! If I can reduce my cooking costs to 10p a day, then I can massively reduce my energy bill!
I have a great day tomorrow as I will be running another Frugal Food workshop in St. Austell and working with some great families sharing ideas on how to eat well on a tiny budget. Sometimes saving money in the kitchen can be so simple. Baked spuds from the crock pot instead of the oven, and I eat baked potatoes about once a week, would save £7.80 or about £10 a year including VAT. A tiny simple saving but well worth it when added to all the other little household savings.
Over to you, what little things do you do, which on their own seem petty, all add up in the end?
Until tomorrow,
Love Froogs xx
