Hello Dear Reader,
If you were to believe the television, then you would be forgiven for thinking that Cornwall is all about money. I would like to remind everyone that you can come to Cornwall on holiday, or live here and have a perfect day out and not spend a penny. I always try to park for free, if you come to South East Cornwall then the parking at Hannafore is free. We live close by and the only cost of our day was the diesel to to the 12 miles there and home again.
Our walk today was from Hannafore in Looe to Talland Bay. Like all coastal walks, it has steep inclines and it's not for the unwell, those wobbly on their legs or without the stamina to get back again. It was a round 10K walk, which sound easy enough but think of 10K on a stairmaster and you'll be about right. It's a two hour round walk which sounds like we dribbled our way there and back. It's hilly and hellish in places and I would advise against the walk if it has rained a lot as it will be very muddy and unsure underfoot on the very steep incline.
It's also not a walk for small children unless you are prepared to back pack them there and back. Another think to look out for a bullocks, cows with calves and adders in the summer. Walk in front of your children so they will bite you first............it will save their lives. You are big and will go to hospital, it could kill a small child. Adder bites are rare, as are adders.
The start of the walk is easy and you could just do that bit and turn back but you really need to head for Talland, it's worth it when you get there.
The headland scenery is amazing all the way.
Looking back across the shimmering sea to Looe island.
It's all amazingly beautiful, the coastline, the rolling hills and the land either side of the walk. It's easy to lose track of time and just be in awe of just how wonderful it all is.
The walk is thick with wild flowers, birds, hawks, cormorants, herons and bees. The bumble bees just love the fox gloves and you can watch them, barely able to fly as so laden with pollen.
I had to share the foxgloves with you.
Another view back towards Looe and Looe island.
The paths are maintained by the National Trust, the steps help on the inclines. I counted over 400 steps on the way there and back again. Great for a butt work out..............work those glutes!
Walking back from Talland..
Sweaty but with our souls topped up with sheer joy!
Take Aunty Froogs advice and wear sturdy walking boots.
After coming down, I had to go back up again!
Heading home.
The photos didn't load in order. At Talland Bay there is a cafe on the beach. We bought a can of lemonade just so we could sit a while and take in the bay. It's a perfect little cove for families. I looked at the cafe menu, it isn't extortinate, which is could be for a cafe on the beach.
Talland Bay! Fantastic for snorkeling, swimming, fishing, diving or just sitting on the beach with your faminly.
There were flowers everywhere!
The walk back.
All in all, a perfect walk and a perfect day out.
We had a flask of de-caff coffee waiting for us back at the car and we sat on a bench overlooking Looe island and discussed how wonderful life is, how amazing the sun felt and why we loved going out for walks. We passed families, plenty of walkers, dog walkers and heard accents from many regions of the British Isles, many of whom are on holiday in this area.
Please don't think you need lots of money to come to Cornwall. Bring a tent. Bring food from home. Go on huge hikes like we did today. Sit on benches and read books. Sit on a rock and enjoy the view. It really doesn't need to be expensive.
Ours cost us a shared can of lemonade!
That was it!
There is something amazing about being outside, rain or shine and putting some miles onto a pair of boots!
Who needs to 'go on holiday' when a days walking tops up the happiness bucket as much as this did.
Until tomorrow,
Love Froogs xxxx
