How to get things done

Hello Dear Reader,

Do you ever think that powers that be are just trying to rail road through policies?

Do you ever feel that once they are elected that no one holds them to account? In some cases, especially at local levels it's easy to ignore local activities.

I'm one of the people who doesn't.

I read the minutes of all the council meetings.

I check the agendas of any upcoming council meetings.

I'm glad I did.

Issues that affect my immediate neighbourhood arose and what did you think I did?

I printed a copy of the agenda and posted it through the neighbour's doors!

All of the doors.

I told them when and where the council meeting was.

I told them who the councillor was and how to contact them.

I thought it was in vain and I might be the lone voice of dissent at the meeting.

They turned up.......................in their droves!

The councillors rocked up and the queue went down the stairs and round the corner.

They had to bring in extra seats.

But! Our views were heard!

It was far from a battle and just a skirmish nonetheless no one will ever hear your point of view if you wait for someone else in your community to raise their voice.

Be heard.

Make your point.

That's the way to get things done.

I spent yesterday researching lots of 'local issues' and to be honest, it did my head in. Here's what you can do. Check out your council or local government website and check out what is being discussed at committee level. Whether it's planning, local schools, roads or services............if you don't know what's going on, they are not going to tell you. Find the information and keep up with what's going on locally.

I was told tonight, if you hadn't had put that leaflet through my door then we'd not have known anything about it. I'm far from Cromwell and I'd never raise a New Model Army but I'll politely keep printing out council minutes and agendas and popping them through doors. I've got ink and paper at the best prices and my small neighbourhood will know about any issues that affect them.

Why? Liskeard matters to me!

Think of this, Dear Reader..............community spirit is free!

I love free stuff!

Until tomorrow,

Love Froogs xxxxxxxxxxxx
