Hello Dear Reader,
I've just got my breath back. That was a busy weekend! Yesterday was spent at St Austell Baptist Church and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the ministry team and church members for letting me teach cookery there. I would like to thank Liz and Tony Northcott for their tireless work with Cornwall One Parent Support and allowing me to come and teach thrifty cookery to their parents. It was an exhausting but a brilliant day.
With the support of a grant from another charity we supplied participants with a grocery bag to take away. A menu and ideas for a week's food and a buffet lunch of everything I'd taught them to cook that everyone shared together with their children. Eight participants this time, too many to be honest but we got through it.
I got there early and prepped as much as a I could to save time and get ahead.
I laid out all of the thrifty ingredients. Not to everyone's taste but as I said to everyone, if you never eat any of this food, that's ok and if you never cook anything like it that's ok too. I don't do what I do to make people do the same. If anyone wants to reduce their food bill and eat healthily then I'm glad to help.
Cheesy topped shepherdess pie.
Veggie stew and dumplings - I sprinkled on some spare cheese to use it up.
Meatballs in tomato sauce and meat loaf in the back ground.
Loads of veg to pad out the portions.
Liz and I............the last ones standing and cleaning up the kitchen afterwards.
We used plenty of elbow grease, that's for sure!
Our lunch today was leftovers! A 300g pack of minced beef, an onion and some spare veg from yesterday. I brought it home as I didn't want it to go in the bin, along with some grated cheese. The fajita kit was from Approved food and were two for £1. I made burritos..........I made too many so we'll have leftover burritos tomorrow!
Not a traditional recipe but it used up what we had.
We used our time gardening today. We are recycling what we've inherited in the garden. We're moving shrubs and plants around to get the garden the way we like it. We've also chatted to neighbours and had a walk locally.
I never knew cookery could be so exhausting!
I'm off for an early night to get my breath back and I'll be on form tomorrow.
Lots of love,
Froogs xxxxxxxxxx
